Background

The project started as a result of talking to older people during lockdown and learning, that as the pandemic progressed, they were feeling more and more isolated from friends, families and groups.

One participant suggested that writing would be a way of sharing experiences and that became the ‘lightbulb’ moment for the birth of the project. Jazanne secured funding and ran workshops using reminiscence, storytelling and poetry.

The project ran for 5 months and during this time participants wrote, rehearsed and performed pieces for a radio play.

The aim of the project was to:

  • Reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness
  • Connect communities from Enfield and Newham
  • Empower participants to use storytelling to share experiences
  • Support participants to use social media platforms to communicate
  • Give participants a voice
  • Positively impact on well-being

"The stories are engaging and touch on many issues.. It was good to hear the differing points of view."
