I came from Goa and I have lived in Newham for 44 years. Goa is full of beautiful sandy beaches; it’s a holiday resort.

Lots of tropical fruits grow there such as; bananas, jackfruit, mangoes and cashews.

The Chashew  trees that grow there have fruit, and the seeds are the cashew nuts.

Once these nuts/seed are roasted they can be eaten.

The fruit is very acidic.

In Goa we make alcohol from the cashew trees, just for the grown-ups it is very strong.

I came from Goa in India, and went to Mombasa in Kenya.

When Kenya changed it rules we decided to come to England because my husband had a British passport.

We have been in Newham for 44 years.

Arrival

My family came to England in August it was a little warm.

My husband was a teacher and had a studio flat but it was too small for us all so we spent a week in a Bed and Breakfast in Ealing.

My Gran found us a place in Plashet Grove, Eastham.

Contribution to Newham

I play music at Manor Farm Care home. Also, I was involved in the Deanery Choir of Newham.

This project has been commissioned by Culture Within Newham and funded by Arts Council England.
