I came from Lagos in Nigeria with four brothers myself and my Mum.

Journey

We came on a plane.

Contribution to Newham

I started a group at the church to feed the homeless on Mondays and Fridays free of charge and we feed people in the church on Sundays especially the children.

I represent a parent’s groups, because my daughter has Downs’s syndrome. I became the voice for carers in Newham. We started a group called the co-production group in Newham. I helped set up the care act in Newham.

My particular thing today is for older carers who have older children. After the age of 18 our disabled children have nothing to do, there are no facilities to accommodate them.

I now run SLD, (Senior Learning Disabilities) group of parents in their 70’s and 80’s and their children who are in their 50’s and 60’s.

There is no policy for taking care of our children when we can no longer do it, so they are falling through the gap. This is what we do.

This project has been commissioned by Culture Within Newham and funded by Arts Council England.
