Breadline was a social drama based around the users of a foodbank.

Background

The play looked at the lives of people who struggled to survive through the cost of living crisis.

The stories were based on real experiences.


Development

The idea of the piece came about from discussion and shared life experiences of older people based in Newham and Enfield.

Both groups wanted to explore the impact of Covid -19 which led to increased feelings of isolation and loneliness.

The Newham group wished to explore the cost of living crisis and growth of foodbanks, it was from this, that the idea of Breadline was born.

The project ran for a year and the piece was presented through drama, movement and poetry.

It had sold out performances for all shows.
